Using Passkeys Across Different Ecosystems
Passkeys are synced within their native ecosystems, but can be used across different platforms through cross-device authentication or third-party password managers.
Apple (iCloud Keychain)
- Passkeys are stored in the iCloud Keychain and sync across all Apple devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID.
- To use Apple passkeys on non-Apple devices:
- Use cross-device authentication: scan a QR code with your iPhone or iPad to authenticate on Android, Windows, or other devices
- Alternatively, export passkeys to a third-party password manager here
Google (Google Password Manager)
- Passkeys are stored in the Google Password Manager and sync across Android devices and Chrome browsers signed in with the same Google account.
- To use Google passkeys on non-Google devices:
- Use cross-device authentication: scan a QR code with your Android device on iPhone, Windows, or other platforms
- On iOS 16+: Sign into Chrome to automatically sync passkeys (requires Chrome as autofill provider) here
Microsoft (Windows Hello)
- Windows Hello manages passkeys that sync across Windows 11 devices via a Microsoft account.
- To use Windows passkeys on non-Windows devices:
- Use Microsoft Authenticator app (iOS/Android) to approve sign-in requests from your phone
- Alternatively, export passkeys to a third-party password manager here
